The 12 Days of Bris-mas

This Christmas, we’ve put a Bristol Water twist on the classic ‘12 Days of Christmas’.

The 12 Days of Bris-mas

Our updated version, ‘The 12 Days of Bris-mas’ celebrates everything we’re doing to keep your water flowing, stop Every Drip and help you save Every Drop (and money!) this festive season.

A big thank you to our colleague Raffael for lending her amazing singing voice and bringing this song to life in our video that you can find at the end of the blog, we hope it gives you a chuckle and some water-saving inspiration!

On the 1st day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

A meter fitted for free!

A free water meter is one of the best ways to save water and money.

It’s quick to install and means you’re only paying for the water you use.

Plus, our lower bills promise means you can make the switch risk free.

If after 2 years your bills are higher, you can switch back and we’ll refund the difference from your unmetered bill.

On the 2nd day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

2 helping hands

We're here to help if you or someone you know needs a little extra support. Whether it's help and advice around bills, or getting assistance for additional needs, we're here for you.

If you’re struggling to pay, we have a range of plans to reduce your bills or help manage your payments.

If you have additional needs or a disability, you can sign up to our Priority Services register for free. We can help with meter reading, different bill formats, priority repairs, emergency bottled water and more.

On the 4th day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

4 minute showers

Take the four-minute shower challenge this Christmas and encourage any festive guests to do the same.

Not only does it save water, but it also cuts down on energy use (and costs) for heating. Try timing yourself with your favourite festive song – ‘Wonderful Christmas Time’ or ‘Last Christmas’ are the perfect length.

On the 5th day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

5 FIVE WATER BUTTS!

Looking for a Christmas gift idea that’s practical and planet friendly?

A water butt is the perfect present for gardeners, helping them collect and reuse rainwater.

It’s an easy way to save water, especially in the warmer months when plants need extra hydration.

On the 6th day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

6 pipes a-laying

Upgrading and investing in the water network is a big part of what we do.

From laying new pipes to replacing old ones, our teams work hard year-round to improve reliability and reduce leaks.

On the 7th day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

7 swans (and loads of geese, and ducks, and coots and moorhens and great crested grebes) a-swimming

Chew Valley Lake is a bird watcher’s paradise, especially in winter.

More than 270 species of birds have been recorded at Chew Valley Lake, and the lake is the third most important site in Britain for wintering wildfowl.

At this time of year, up to 4,000 ducks of 12 different species could be present, including internationally important numbers of shoveler and gadwall.

It’s the perfect spot for a peaceful Christmas walk.

On the 8th day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

8 listeners listening

Our leak detection teams use special equipment to listen for hidden leaks in the network.

These highly skilled ‘leak listeners’ can pinpoint the sound of water escaping, even underground.

Their work is vital to ensuring we don’t waste precious water, especially in the busy festive season.

Bristol Water has one of the lowest levels of leaks in the water sector.

If you spot a leak, help us by reporting it.

On the 9th day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

9 people saving

Did you know that 9 out of 10 Bristol Water customers saved money when switching to a water meter?

If you’re not on one already, it’s worth considering.

It’s free to get one fitted, and it helps ensure you’re only paying for the water you actually use. Win-win!

Try our water meter calculator and in just a few minutes, find out how much you could save by making the switch.

On the 10th day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

10 loos a-leaking

A leaky loo can waste up to 400 litres of water a day – that’s enough to fill five bathtubs which could add £100s to your water bill.

They often go undetected and are particularly common in modern dual flush systems.

Check your loo with a free leak test pack, or try our simple trick using some toilet paper:

On the 11th day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

11 Peters piping

Okay, we know this one’s a bit random, but we couldn’t resist!

Peter’s playing bagpipes to bring some musical cheer to the festive season.

Fun fact: If you laid out all the pipes in our network, they’d reach from Bristol all the way to Madagascar!

On the 12th day of Bris-mas, Bristol Water gave to me…

12 fixers fixing

Spare a thought for our amazing emergency teams this Christmas.

While most of us are tucking into turkey and mince pies, they’re hard at work, making sure the water keeps flowing.

A big thanks to all our amazing colleagues - the unsung heroes of the holiday season.

If the majority of the earth is made of water, how can it be so precious?

Water is everywhere, granted. We are surrounded by it. In fact, nearly three quarters of this earth is filled with it. We head out the door and it’s falling from the sky, we go for a run and we sweat it out, we drink it, we wash in it, we breathe it out. It’s in…

In an emergency, could you find your stop tap?

Imagine this: it’s a Sunday morning, you’re half asleep, your head’s a bit sore after last night and all you want is a big, hot mug of coffee, to lounge about in your pyjamas all day and watch TV. You sleepily walk into the kitchen and there’s water everywhere, something’s leaked or burst then you…
